Evening on the York
A Quadricentennial VIP Dinner Cruise to Celebrate the Birth of Our Nation, and Advance the Cause of Providential History and Christian Education
Give ear, O my people, [to] my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. We will not hide [them] from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: That the generation to come might know [them, even] the children [which] should be born; [who] should arise and declare [them] to their children: That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments. (Psalm 78:1-7)
A Night to Remember
Your evening begins at the Yorktown Riverwalk dock where the magnificent yacht, the Spirit of Norfolk, will be waiting to bring you on a grand VIP dinner cruise of the historic York River. Before the sun begins to set, our yacht will transport us into the past as we experience four hundred years of history. We will view the gorgeous countryside along the York as did the sailors of the Jamestown colony explorers, the jack tars of British and American ships, the boys in blue and gray on Union and Confederate naval vessels, the thousands of merchants and farmers of four centuries, and the men of the most powerful navy known to mankind.
You will see Werocomoco — Powhatan’s capitol city — the place where Captain John Smith was taken as a captive and where his life was saved by the Indian princess, Pocohantas. You will see the bluffs of the Yorktown defenses where George Washington and the Marquis DeLafayette defeated the British in 1781. On down the York, you will observe Confederate forts of the Williamsburg line, and once again be reminded of the high price Americans have paid for their country. Our cruise will take us past the loading piers of the Naval Weapons Station, the installation which supplies weapons and ammunition for the United States Atlantic Fleet, which continues to defend our shores. As we pass cruise westward we will also pass, (but not stop at) one of the most important bases of the Central Intelligence Agency.
Help Vision Forum Ministries Honor Our Fathers and Raise “Rocks of Remembrance” to the Providential Hand of God in Our Nation
Join us on Thursday, June 14, at the Jamestown Quadricentennial Celebration for a very special signature event- the 400th Anniversary “Evening on the York” — A Quadricentennial VIP fund-raising dinner cruise to celebrate the providential birth of our nation and support the work of Vision Forum Ministries Faith of Our Fathers Project. A goal of this project is to tell the great stories of American history such that gratitude is cultivated in the hearts of young men and women. Our mission is to train this present generation to honor their fathers so that we can live long in “the land which the Lord thy God giveth” (Exodus 20:12). We do this by training young men and women to celebrate God’s providential history. We do this through books and film, museums and special events. Specifically, your $500 a plate contribution is tax deductible and will help us with the following time-sensitive, culture-changing efforts:
- The Jamestown Quadricentennial: A Celebration of America’s Providential History.
- The Jamestown Children’s Memorial (these funds will ensure that we cover the costs of the memorial should we not receive enough one dollar donations).
- The production of material that equips young men and women to know and defend our providential history against political correctness and historical revisionism.
- Our mission to establish a museum and national center dedicated to equipping this generation with the ability to recognize and defend the providential works of God in America.
The Spirit of Norfolk
Through a special arrangement with the Spirit of Norfolk, this modernized, climate-controlled yacht will be traveling from its dock in Norfolk to the Riverwalk Dock in Yorktown to provide our VIP guests with a historic and unforgettable three-hour dinner celebration tour down the most historic part of the York River. The ship will return and dock at approximately 9 pm back at the Yorktown Riverwalk Dock.
The Spirit of Norfolk yacht features three decks, huge panoramic windows, outdoor strolling decks at bow and stern, and an upper observation deck perfect for viewing the shoreline, catching the sunset, and imagining those days four hundred years ago of which Captain John Smith wrote: “But God the guider of all good actions, forcing them by an extreame storme to hull all night, did drive them by his providence to their desired Port” — the same winds blew through the hair of the English adventurers!
Unforgettable Messages, Ballads of Bravery
With addresses by Doug Phillips, historians William Potter and Marshal Foster, musical entertainment by maritime balladeer Charlie Zahm and other evening entertainment, this fund-raising event will be a memorable way to celebrate with your family and help partner with Vision Forum Ministries on this historic occasion.
Sponsor a Table
Perhaps you cannot attend the event, but you are an individual, business or foundation which would like to stand with Vision Forum Ministries at this time as we “shew to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done” (Psalm 78:4). Your sponsorship will help us to raise the funds to give America a quadricentennial celebration which will be remembered for the next hundred years and advance our mission to build visitor centers and museums dedicated to preserving and proclaiming to the children of our generation the vast providential heritage bequeathed to us by the God of our fathers.
May we recommend that you consider sponsoring a table or two? You may assign your seats to individuals of your own choosing. Alternatively, we will assign the table to local pastors and families through whom we hope to make an investment of encouragement and exposure to the great message of gratitude to the Lord for his providential blessing on our nation, honor for our fathers, and the necessity of building multi-generational visions of victory for Christ. Your tax-deductible contribution for sponsoring a table for eight is $3,000.
